Finished the binding on a charity quilt.

It is going to the Happy Chemo charity group

thru the Utah Quilt Guild

I also finished the bumper pad for

Granddaughter-to-be's crib.

(Nope, she has still not arrived.....)

Vintage fashion of World War 2

I went with my Husband last week for a mini vacation.

He went to a teachers conference for 2 days.

I had a fun adventure of shopping and museums for 2 days.

I attended the World War 2 exhibit at the

BYU Museum of Art.

The exhibit was primarily made up of posters

and graphics used during the War to recruit soldiers

and remind the public what was needed to run the War.

They also included fashions made of the time period.

Interesting waist accents...

I wish more detail came out in this photo.

There are side pockets with little button details that looked great!

Close up of the lace detail...but what is the lace made of?

Wheat! Woven wheat that was painted white...amazing!

As I was leaving, I snapped a photo of these creative Palm Trees.

Shiny, sharp cut metal...signs all the up the staircase

reminded you to NOT touch the palm trees.

I love museums!

Ah, come on.....

Yes, she is still pregnant!

Coming up on her due date in 3 more days,

but has been having contractions for a few weeks now.

On a similar note....

Happy Birthday to my Handsome son!

25 years ago I was sitting in a hospital

recovering from giving birth to him.

All 9lb 13oz of him...he was only 18 inches long-

a perfect square of baby!

At 6' 5" now, he definitely stretched out.

Love you, Boy!

Happy Summer Solstice World!

Quilters are amazing people

I borrowed the following post from

 Joplin, Missouri..... was our first trip there since the May 22 tornado. I’ll do a separate post with photos but I took the quilts that have come in so far. I thought I could drive through the neighborhoods and find people who needed them but you just can’t believe what the neighborhoods look like. There is so much devastation and just not many people around. It was a struggle to find people in the neighborhoods who weren’t cleanup folks.

 I had 12 quilts to give out.

When I walked up to the people, I asked them if that had been there home. I didn’t want to give a quilt to a looter! But, I guess if I were a looter and someone who wasn’t a policeman asked me if that was my home, I’d probably say yes too but . . no one looked like a looter to me. They all looked tired and sad. When I asked them if they could use a quilt that was sent to let those in Joplin know that quilters all around the country cared about them, almost every one of them said “Oh, it’s so beautiful . . but there are others who need it so much more than I do!” I insisted they take it and I got several sweaty hugs! Thank you all . . I’m sure we made the days brighter for the recipients.

The first quilt I gave out when to Eddie. I didn’t ask the others if I could take their pictures but I did ask Eddie.

Eddie is the old guy who runs . . maybe owns . . our favorite sushi restaurant. We told him we were so glad the restaurant was ok. He said yes, he was glad too but he lost his home and everything in it and was lucky to have survived the tornado. He said he was staying with friends and it was really hard. When he walked away, Chad said “Mom, did you hear the sadness in his voice?” We had not yet begun giving out quilts and I said . . A quilt! For Eddie! So when we were finished eating, I went to the car and got him this quilt. When he brought our ticket, I told him I had something for him. He kept saying .. “No, No! I’m going to be ok!” I told him that we wanted him to have it . . that my friends had sent quilts for those who had lost everything and we just wanted him to know that those of us who can’t help in any other way, wanted to share our quilts.” He was so happy! When I took his picture, I was saying “Smile, Eddie!” He said “I can’t smile . . I’m about to cry!” He followed me out to the car thanking me so thank you all . . those who sent money to whatever organization, those who donated quilts or quilt supplies . . those who have prayed . . thank you all . . from Eddie!

I am so proud of the sewing community...

Way to go people!

Paintstik class sample

I have the sample for my paintstik about 1/2 finished.

Still some printing to add in the lower part....

Embroidered Sunshine above the sailboat....

and some other handwork-accents.

I spray painted around the outside...don't like it...oh well!

Weekly fabric stash report

Nothing...nil....zilch!

Will be teaching a fabric painting class on Tuesday.

We are on Baby Watch...already made a trip

to Labor and Delivery, but got sent home.

Daughter V is a little tired of being pregnant.

Hopefully this baby comes soon...

Harley Davidson...you must be feeling better!

My husband must be feeling better...

He got his Harley out of storage

and has ridden it for the first time since December.

(I promise he did not ride with the

3 year old grandson on it!)

Finally...he's feeling better!

Fabric Dye day

I am teaching a class on fabric

dye and painting techniques next week.

Today was making samples day

I'm thinking this is going to be used for a sea-ocean project

I also did 10 squares of the same blue...really like it!

I re-dyed this square that I had early spray painted.

I always dye in bare feet.....

Wow, I seriously need a pedicure!

Now to move onto paint sticks...

June Birdie Block

Since Granddaughter #2 is on the way any day now,

I thought I better get my June Birdie BOM done.

I really enjoyed this block!



Stash busting report

As many of you know,

my husband had surgery nearly 2 months.

It was suppose to be a simple surgery.

10-14 day recovery.....no biggie.

It's turned into a biggie.

He is finally beginning to feel human again.

all these weeks later.

Consequently, I have done very little of anything sewing related.

My days are filled with the everyday chores that keep a house,

and family, running smoothly (well, semi-smoothly)

One thing I have discovered in being home alot more...

hand stitching!

June's UFO...#8

My UFO #8 is

the challenge fabric for the

Utah State Fair 2011 quilt challenge.

I purchased it last year when I went to the fair with a friend.

She has entered the quilt challenge before,

but this will be my first time.

I need to design, make, quilt and bind a mini quilt.

The turn in date for judging is the 1st of September.

Hhhmmmm...what can I do with this fabric?
