2017-The year of the UFO Finish!

I signed up on the
all people quilt site for
their 2017 UFO challenge.

I filled out the form and
easily had 12 UFO's to finish.

Then, I got thinking about how
every year I hit about November
and feel stressed to finish many
Christmas themed projects.

So, I printed another UFO
form and filled it out for
just Christmas projects for 2017.

I will be using the
Christmas UFO list for the
UFO challenge here with Judy.

My list is as follows:

01. Nativity for E
02. Nativity for M
03, Nativity for V
04. Gingerbread ornaments for C
05. Gingerbread ornaments for S
06. Art to Heart Nativity wall hanging
07. Art to Heart Nativity wall hanging
08. Crazy Christmas Village wall hanging
09. Crazy Christmas Village wall hanging
10. Christmas tree skirts a. Bird b. Ocean
11.Nativity Christmas tree skirt
12. Nativity for me

I am really excited for
2017....a year of completion!

The weather outside is frightful!

Freezing temps have come to my area
of the Earth. I don't especially enjoy
Winter-Snow-Cold, but know I will
appreciate the water we will need in the
warm months to grow our garden.

Today is our monthly family
dinner where all the kids and
grandchildren come over to eat
and visit. Between dinner and
Church and other sewing project
(for Christmas), I hope to get some
Slow Sunday stitching done.

If I do, it is back to my
Trip Around the World.

Goodness, that's an old photo....
One person can not hold it up anymore.

I am on Row 41, which is made
up of 142 two inch squares.

I hope you are safe inside from
Mother Nature and are also
Slow Sunday Stitching.

And Happy Holidays to you!

On the Needle-December 2

I haven't posted a
On the Needle status for\
a very long time.

Why...because I haven't been
knitting as much as of late.

But here it is...

Two years in the making...

My first sock!
I kept saying I was going to try
to knit a sock, but it always got
put to the side for other projects

Right now, I am deep in
Christmas projects, so the
second sock will have to
wait until after the
New Year.

What's On the Needle at your house?

Calm before the crazy...

I love Sundays.
Sleeping in...
Attending Church...
Hand sewing on a project

This Sunday, I am currently working on
my Trip around the World quilt. I
began the project over two years ago
with a Facebook group. I think
everyone else has finished
(or given up!)

The squares are 2 inches. I am starting
row 41. Every seventh row I use the same
red with white dot fabric. All other
fabric is from my stash.
I added it up today, and I
currently have over 3800 squares
sewn. so far.

I find hand sewing very relaxing, which
I especially need as we go into the
Holiday season here in the USA.

What are you slow stitching today?

And the next project on the UFO list is.....

I have tried very hard to  finish
half-started project off of my
UFO list this year.

Of course, I could not resist beginning
another project, so I started the
Be My Neighbor quilt at

I have made 6 of the 10 blocks
which have been published online.
The quilt will have a total of
16 blocks in 4 rows.

The third block
(blue house in upper right)
and the fifth block
(house with heart)
have an appliqued bird,
which I have not added yet.

I am debating whether to
applique by hand or machine.

I am making the blocks from
a fabric line of very bright prints
(unusual for me to sew with).
The prints are made up of
dots, chevrons or diamond patterns

Today, for my
Slow Sunday Stitching, I will
be finishing the final full row
on my Trip Around the World quilt.
I think it is about 110 inch square.

It will have a finishing row of
the red dot print I have used
throughout the quilt. Next...
hand quilting it. The hand
quilting will begin
after the first of the year.

Cool Fall stitching

The outside temperature is cool.
Neighbors are beginning
to use their fireplaces...
smells so good!

Today, my Slow Sunday Stitching
is going to be working on my
Trip Around the World.

I have been working on it for 2 years.

I was thinking of finishing it out
at King size, but I am thinking
a Queen size is just as good.

What are you

Red and White is almost done.....

I love finishing a large project.

I have been working on my
Red n White quilt for months.

Today, I am hand stitching
the label on the back and then

IT IS DONE!

The quilt is for the
Utah State Quilt Guild
Jubilee 40th Anniversary
celebration in 2017.

It is also for my
35th Wedding Anniversary.
My Husband helped pick out
blocks that meant something to
our marriage over the years.

Time for a new knit project

I usually have multiple sewing projects
going at any given time, but only one
or two knit projects.

I just finished this hat for myself.

It is called "Thistle Hat"....I found the
pattern in a library book, though I am
sure it is on Ravelry.com too.

It is the first time I have followed
a knitting chart. It wasn't
difficult since there was
only a 6 row repeat for the
circle pattern ribbing.

Now...what to knit?

I have no other project started.

I keep saying I am going to try to
learn to knit socks. After 5 years,
maybe the time has come.....

What's on your needles?

Staying busy and moving on....

I am feeling frustrated today.
I have many projects that I could be
working on, but all I want to do is
the one project I can not....
my Red n White quilt.

It is still at the quilters house.

Okay, what to do....

I could work on my
Trip Around the World

(Wow, that's an old photo)

Or I could do some cross stitch
work on some quilt blocks.

Or I could finish any number of
partial started projects.

I think it is time to make a list.
(A long list)
A list of started projects which
need to be finished.

This may take a while.....

On to the next project

It is a rainy morning and Fall
weather is in full swing here in Utah.

I finally finished my Red n White quilt.
It goes to my quilter, Diane, tomorrow.

I made this quilt for the Utah
Quilt Guild Jubilee, which is
being celebrated next year.

I also made it to celebrate my
Husbands and I wedding anniversary
next year too. He helped pick out
the blocks.

Some of the block represent where
we have lived or other aspects of our
married life together.

For my Slow Sunday stitching,
I think I will go dig out a
needlepoint project that needs
to be finished.

Welcome Fall

The nights are getting cooler.
The temperature is getting colder.
The leaves are changing their colors
to beautiful oranges and reds.

It's Fall here in Utah (USA)

Perfect weather for staying inside
and catching up on my hand work.

I am back to hand stitching my
Trip Around the World quilt.
Above is a very old photo from
when I had just had begun this project.

This weeks goals:

Get the borders finished on Red n White quilt

Send Red n White quilt to my quilter

Finish quilting my Welcome quilt

What are you creating?

Back in the Saddle again

Now that the weather has cooled off,
I am feeling much more energetic
and ready to get back to a regular schedule.

This slow Sunday, I am stitching
on my Trip Around the World quilt.

This is a current photo taken at my
quilt guild meeting about 2 weeks ago.
Not a great photo, but you can see
the size...it is a little larger than a Queen.

This is a project that has been going on
for about 2 years now. Hand sewing 2 inch
squares take a long time....

My creating plans this week:

-Add borders to Red and White quilt

-Make backing for Red and White quilt

-Take Red and White quilt to quilter

-Sew Circa 2016 blocks

What are your plans for the week?

And....I'm back!

I have not planned to take a 9 month break
from blogging...it just kind of happened that way.

As the weather gets cooler, it is time to get
back to more (hand) sewing and knitting. I have
a very long list of projects I would like to start,
but I am trying (again) to finish a few projects
before starting another new one.

Today, I am going back to hand stitching
my Trip Around the World quilt. It has sat
in a bag next to the couch for months and
months, untouched.

Goodness, that's an old photo...I have added quite a few more
rows. I am going for a King size. Currently, it is just
over a Queen size.

I look forward to seeing everyone's projects at Slow Sunday
stitching. What are you working on?

Finally...I used some fabric!

My first stash busting post for 2016!

I have not been doing well in the
stash busting program!

But....I finally have a stash bust!

I made some charity baby quilts
using up about all the larger
pieces of flannel I had in my
stash....yeah!

Fabric in 2016: 4 yards
Fabric out 2016: 15 yards

Total busted: 11 yards

It's not much, but it's a start!

I had to purchase ( I really did!)
the 4 yards of red and white
fabric for a new project I
could not pass up.

The state of Utah Quilt Guild
is doing a state wide project
of red and white quilts to
celebrate a big anniversary in 2017.

I love red and white quilts, so...
I had to buy the fabric. (ha ha ha)

Here is my start of blocks

I have made 6, 9 and 12 inch blocks
so far. I want to make a couple of
15 inch and a 18 inch block too.
I am going for a King size quilt.

What are you working on?
My first post of 2016!

I am feeling very creative this year, and
have set some new sewing goals.

The state of Utah Quilt Guild will be
celebrating a big anniversary in 2017
and has asked individuals and local
guilds to make Red and White quilts.

The quilts will be part of a touring
exhibit thru the state of Utah during
2017. I love red and white quilts!

I am making my own...here are the
first blocks...

I am basing my blocks on 3 inch
measurements. The blocks
(left to right) are;

Rows 1-2: 6 inch
Rows 3-4: 9 inch
Rows 5-6: 12 inch

I would also like to make some 15
and maybe one 18 inch block.

As part of my hand work, I am
thinking of doing some hand
embroidery in the white centers
of some of the blocks.

Todays hand work....back to my
trip around the world. I am going
for a King size.
