Four days into the new Routinue

I am 4 days into my new eating-exercising plan
and it seems to be going great!
I have had some challenges with eating every 3 hours
and I am a little sore from the extra exercise,
but it hasn't killed me...yet....lol.

Some of the exercises I do:
(these photos are off the Internet-none of them are of me)

Each day I jump robe 50 times

Twice a week I do Zumba, which is a dance class
I use to dance as a teen, so I really like the classes

I also do water aerobic classes twice a week

We move back and forth across the pool,
swim laps back and forth in the deep end
Use empty bottle to float so we can do core toning

Plus use foamy weights to add resistance under the water.
Of course, the best time of the class is the last 5 minutes,
when we get to relax in the hot tub!
I am also walking 4 times a week.

I am using http://www.sparkpeople.com/ to track my
calories and exercise daily.
It's a good free site..check it out!

My trainer said to set 3 realistic goals to accomplish
in the next 6 weeks and to tell others of my intent, so

Goal 1: Be able to wear my black dress pants to my 30th High School
Reunion in 6 weeks. I can wear them now, but not comfortably.

Goal 2: Lose 1 clothing size in 6 weeks

Goal 3: Be able to swim 2 full laps the full length of the pool
without stopping or using a kick board.

There you have it!
Almost one week down-5 to go!

A New Me!

I have been battling my weight and some health problems for quite a few years. The weight was really not a reason for the health problems, but it did make it worse. I've tried reading all the books...tried diet pills once...but could never get it all together..either I exercised like a crazy women or I did really well at eating a balanced diet, but not both at the same time. I've lost the same 10lbs multi times!

Finally decided it was time to get serious and make myself a priority.
I've taken care of my Dad the last few years, but with his passing this last January I don't have that pressure.
I've been babysitting 3 grandchildren under age 5 off and on for 3 years...that's done too.

I hired a Nutritionist/Personal trainer, who has also been a friend for the last 13 years.

We have a plan...workouts...eating style!

I start tomorrow:

Daily food/exercise journal
Eating every 2-3 hours for 3 meals & 2 snacks
Workout each day

I've included some photos (since I'm a visual person) on this post of what I think healthy and beautiful looks like for a women.

Health and happiness, here I come!

My Hubby, who is a school teacher, starts back to school tomorrow, as does my granddaughter, so the house will be a little quieter again. Hope you have a fab week!

Eat Pray Love movie review

I had read the book, which I really enjoyed.
Sometimes the movie version of a book is awful,
but not in this case..they did a pretty good job.

The character of Liz goes on a year long adventure
to discover who she truly is and her purpose in life.

First, she goes to Rome, Italy
where she wants to learn Italian
and see sites that take her breath away.

She also learns to enjoy the pleasure of food again!
The real life Liz gained 45 pounds.
As she says,
"I don't want to be obese, but I don't want to feel guilty
every time I eat"

She then goes onto India
where she learns forgiveness,
to pray with an earnest heart,
and a new connection to God.

Her last stop is in Bali
where she learns to love again.

Very good movie:
A little language,
a naked man's butt
but overall, a nice movie.

Always double check dates and measure the fabric twice!

I had planned to enter a couple of small quilts
plus a prayer shawl I had crocheted in my local
county fair.
The turn in date has always been on Monday,
with judging on Tuesday,
with the fair officially opening on Wednesday.
Not this year!
Just found out last night that the turn in date was Saturday...oh well!

Here is a sneak preview of my current quilt.
I am calling it "The Quilt".
I am hoping to have it done and quilted
in time to enter it in the Road the California Show.
The show isn't until January,
but you have to have a photo, fee, and entry form in by Oct. 1st.
100 rows-10 done...
Thousands of 1.5 inch pieces
Better get my machine in gear!

Bonnie Miles show

My quilt group had Bonnie Miles from American Fork (Utah)
come speak to our group this last Tuesday.
She does what she calls "free quilts"
She creates large one block quilts, throwing all her scraps
and leftover pieces in a container next to her sewing machine.
As she is sewing a new quilt, so sews some scraps together too
until she has a few blocks or has created a new piece of fabric

Then she makes enough blocks to suit her needs
and puts together a top.
They were beautiful quilts!

If you are interested, Bonnie teaches each year in January
at the Bryce Canyon Getaway in Utah.

Myrtle Beach Family Photos

We just received the photo DVD from our photographer
from our Mrytle Beach South Carolina reunion.
Since I don't use names here too often,
I'll just share some of the photos...enjoy!

Our Family-Me and Hubby with our three kids, son-in-law & grandson
Oldest daughter and Hubby
Their son...our beautiful grandson!
My daughters and me

I am glad my kids got their good looks from their Dad...
He says he''s glad they got my brains...lol!

Finally the borders are on the quilt!

I have been setting the same sewing goals for weeks now-

"Put borders on the Christmas in July quilt"

The borders are on and guess what.... I have decided I really don't like this quilt!
Sticking it away in the "to be quilted/donated/I don't know" pile

Sometimes you just need to put a project away to really appreciate it!
