Stashbusting Report week #4

Looks good this week, with another QOV quilt!

Fabric in this week: 5 yds
Fabric used this week-8 yds

Fabric in YTD: 32.5 yds
Fabric used YTD: 40 yds

Another UFO is done!

I counted 1.5 yards used in last Sunday's stashbusting report, but I forgot to show what project it went into. I purchased a wall hanging pattern from www.littlequilts.com many years ago. I started appliqueing the letters and that's as far as I got...until now.
My quilt looks similar to this photo off their website (my photo wouldn't post), except I pieced a different 8 point star block for the bottom roll. It was fun to do all the piecing...different from the type of quilts I do now. Don't know what I am going to do with it....

I also finished another Flea Market Fancy quilt for the QOV...the sashing & borders are a bright yellow....I mean a REALLY bright yellow. The squares are more solid fabrics from my stash.

In Closing: I read a couple of refashioning/reusing blogs...also noticed that the Keepsake Quilting catalog has a few books/patterns related to re-using old things to make new....how about you? Do you refashion....I do....please, share!

I am NOT breaking one of my 2009 goals...

One of my sewing goals for 2009 is not to purchase any new sewing patterns and use up alot of what I already have....but look what came in the mail! I actually ordered it in November from the Pine Needles quilt show in Salt Lake. They said it would be mailed in the next 2 weeks....ah, let's try 2 months later! The photo shows the foundation quilt with the four removable blocks (Mittens, snowman, "let it snow" & "January")

I just purchased the foundation quilt pattern and will add my own removal blocks thru the year.

The pattern is called Patchwork Journal Foundation Quilt PJ13 from the company Joined at the Hip (www.joinedatthehip.com). I think if I decide to purchase any more of their cute patterns, I'll just go thru their website...might be quicker!
Of course, I am not going to get to this pattern too soon as I have:
QOV Charity quilt to finish
Hubby's birthday quilt to finish
about a bizillion quilt tops to finish.....
I think my UFO's are multiplying in those closed, dark boxes...naughty UFO's!

Air cast, crutches & a dress form...

....what do these items have in common? My free time, right now. First, the dress form.... My daughter V is quite gifted when it comes to sewing clothes. All thru High School she would just grab a pattern and start cutting and sewing. About the only thing she had problems with was putting in a zipper, but then so do many seamstresses. I decided to purchase a dress form for her Christmas present so she could begin to learn to fit her creations better. Well, my hubby must have thought the same thing, because he purchased the same dress form (in the larger size) for me! We now have two naked dress forms that need some clothing....

Who's leg is in this photo...it's daughter V. She feel on the ice while helping a friend move....4 weeks of air cast and crutches. She can take the cast off twice a day for icing and when she showers. Her knee is pretty swollen in this photo, but you can't really see the bruises.
I keep wanting to sew on my current quilt, but it's just not happening!

Flea Market Fancy quilt

I found this pattern, called Flea Market Fancy quilt, from Crazy Mom Quilts blog. She got it from her friend, Alissa's, blog...aren't quilting blogs great! This pattern turns out beautiful! I used solid scraps from my fabric stash, adding a black small print for the sashing and border from Joanne's fabricsMy daughter is claiming this quilt as her own! It is going to my friend, Diane, who is over the QOV for the state of Utah. I pieced the backing (no photo) out of the leftover black print and solid fabrics. Barely put a dent in my solid fabrics....probably need to do another quilt for QOV, huh!

I keep saying I am having a giveaway for my 100 post. I figured I would be there by now, but just haven't been posting much over the Holidays. But....

Come back on Sunday when I post my first Stash busting report for 2009....it's something good!

Service sewing

I have tried to stay busy over the Holiday break while I didn't have a baby to watch. Trying to do something to make my World better (and shrink my fabric stash!)....sewing double sided flannel receiving blankets for new mommie and babies.

I loved snuggling my own babies in a big over sized flannel quilt!

With the end of the year clearance sales, I got enough to make 9 blankets-7 shown. I get to add all this fabric to my first stashbusting report on Sunday!

I have also been working on finishing up some UFO projects. So many projects....too little time!
In Closing: Do you make New Years resolutions or goals? Me.....no. I seem to plan for the "year" back in the Fall when Hubby the teacher and children go back to school. If you do have a sewing related goal (clothing, quilts, crafts, etc.), please share with us in the comment section!

Stashbuster report #1 and giveaway

My first official stashbusting report for week #1 of 2009!
Fabric in this week-25.5 yards
Fabric used this week-30.5 yards
Fabric purchased for 2009-25.5 yards
Fabric used for 2009-30.5

So far, I'm doing good, but then it's only the first week and I have been sewing quite a bit without the grandson. Maybe when I get back to a regular babysitting/everyday schedule, the sewing will slow down.

Now, down to the real reason you are reading this post...the giveaway! For my 100th post, I am giving away one of my handmade Elephants!
Isn't she cute!

The pattern was created by my Grandmother Ruby back in the 1930's. She entered the pattern into a sewing contest-she won the 2nd place of $10 dollars...that was alot of money during Depression Time 1930's in the USA.
This Elephant is made from the scrap sections of a quilted jacket I made about 2 years ago.
Does he need to come to your house? Have a little one who needs a new friend to hug? Leave a comment, with your e-mail address, so I can contact you for a mailing address.
I will pick the winner from the comment section
the evening of Thursday, January 8th
Good Luck!
