And....I'm back!

I have not planned to take a 9 month break

from blogging...it just kind of happened that way.

As the weather gets cooler, it is time to get

back to more (hand) sewing and knitting. I have

a very long list of projects I would like to start,

but I am trying (again) to finish a few projects

before starting another new one.

Today, I am going back to hand stitching

my Trip Around the World quilt. It has sat

in a bag next to the couch for months and

months, untouched.

Goodness, that's an old photo...I have added quite a few more

rows. I am going for a King size. Currently, it is just

over a Queen size.

Finally...I used some fabric!

My first stash busting post for 2016!

 

I have not been doing well in the

stash busting program!

 

But....I finally have a stash bust!

 

I made some charity baby quilts

using up about all the larger

pieces of flannel I had in my

stash....yeah!

 

Fabric in 2016: 4 yards

Fabric out 2016: 15 yards

 

Total busted: 11 yards

 

It's not much, but it's a start!

 

I had to purchase ( I really did!)

the 4 yards of red and white

fabric for a new project I

could not pass up.

 

The state of Utah Quilt Guild

is doing a state wide project

of red and white quilts to

celebrate a big anniversary in 2017.

 

I love red and white quilts, so...

I had to buy the fabric. (ha ha ha)

 

Here is my start of blocks

 

 

I have made 6, 9 and 12 inch blocks

so far. I want to make a couple of

15 inch and a 18 inch block too.

I am going for a King size quilt.

My first post of 2016!

 

I am feeling very creative this year, and

have set some new sewing goals.

 

The state of Utah Quilt Guild will be

celebrating a big anniversary in 2017

and has asked individuals and local

guilds to make Red and White quilts.

 

The quilts will be part of a touring

exhibit thru the state of Utah during

2017. I love red and white quilts!

 

I am making my own...here are the

first blocks...

 

 

I am basing my blocks on 3 inch

measurements. The blocks

(left to right) are;

 

Rows 1-2: 6 inch

Rows 3-4: 9 inch

Rows 5-6: 12 inch

 

I would also like to make some 15

and maybe one 18 inch block.

 

As part of my hand work, I am

thinking of doing some hand

embroidery in the white centers

of some of the blocks.

 

Todays hand work....back to my

trip around the world. I am going

for a King size.

On the Needle

Knitting Christmas Hats as

fast as I can. This Christmas

is going to be completely

homemade and simple!

 

Ribbed Pillbox hat (#42)

 

 

It was an easy pattern on

size 7 needles.

The pattern is on Ravelry.com too.

 

I have started a different

hat, in the same yarn, from

the same book, but do not

have a photo yet.

I have not been knitting the last

week, but am ready to start a

new Christmas hat

 

Utopia-cable-hat

 

I am a member of a beginners

group on Ravelry.com which

has a easy KAL each month.

 

This month is the Utopia hat.

 

I just need to pick out

my yarn. It will be for my husband.

On the Needle

I finished two hats this week.

 

First, a sock yarn slouchy hat

for my granddaughters birthday

 

 

This is the third I have done

from this pattern. It is not

difficult, but I am ready

to go on to another pattern.

 

My second hat is going to

charity during the holidays.

 

 I am not purchasing yarn

(or fabric) for the next year. This

hat was one of my using up

yarn projects.

 

My next project...I am not sure,

but it will probably be a

Christmas hat or scarf for

a grandchild.

Slow Sunday Stitiching

The weather has turned cooler

this weekend with clouds and rain.

 

I am ready to settle down on

the couch for a little hand stitching

on my Trip Around the World quilt

 

I started it over a year ago, but did

not work on it for most of the Summer.

Sitting under a large quilt top in

the Summer heat was not pleasant!

 

I may also do some un-stitching

today too. I am practicing my

machine quilting on a wallhanging

I have had in the UFO pile

for a couple of years (or more)

I quilted some of the border, but

do not like how it looks. Out come

the handy dandy seam ripper!

 

What are you slow stitching today?

Oh the Needle

The weather is finally turning cooler....

at least in the evenings. I am back

to a little bit of a schedule of sewing

and/or quilting during the day and

knitting in the evenings.

 

I started a new hat. I am not sure

where I acquired the yarn. It's

a pretty red and gold combo,

but very thick. I think this hat will

go to a charity.

On the Needle

I really don't want to keep starting

knit projects and never finishing,

like my quilt projects. This blue

shawl is my never finished, always

on going knit project.

 

 It is not a difficult pattern. I

just keep putting it to the side

while I try something new. I

resolve to have it finished by

the end of the year!

 

I did have a couple of finishes

this past week. I am making

my husband an assortment of

hats he can wear at work.

 

 

He is a teacher, but also does the

cross guard duty at his school.

Cold and sometime snowy mornings

call for a hat.

The pattern is called Ruben Hat on Ravelry

 

I also finished a hat made of

sock yarn for my daughter.

 

 

I am going the next year without

purchasing yarn (or fabric), so

I found a great pattern on Ravelry

for slouchy hats knitted with

sock yarn. I have never made

socks, but had a lot of sock

yarn in my stash (big clearance sale)
