Who is Minou?

Posting each day here on my blog
during the month of October has been fun,
but I have also become more aware of
needing subjects and themes for many posting.

I read over at supermom-no cape how
she came by the name of her blog, so
I thought I would share the same here.

My blog was named for a cat.
A cat named Minou.

Minou was a chocolate brown Siamese
that came into our families life at the right time.
We went to our local animal shelter
and that's where we found her...Miss Minou.

My brother, D, who speaks french fluently,
named her for us.
When I first started blogging,
she would come and sit on my lap as I typed.
It was our quiet time together.

We had her as part of our family for 18 years.

The next generation!

My friend made a comment the other day
about how I must have all this spare time
now that my Husband and I are nearly empty Nester's.

Really? Hhhmmm....
I have a confession to make...

I like my kids,
and grand kids,
and all the noise,
and mayhem,
and mess...

So....

I babysit!

One morning a week I have my
oldest daughters children...
T, who is 3.5 years old and

his sister E, who is 5 months old.

My daughter is Super Woman, who
works a 40 plus hour week,
is finishing out her college degree
and is building a house all at the same time!

(here she is playing with the baby
while her toddler takes a nap on her.
Very good multitasker!)

Yes, the secret is out...
I am Super Woman's Mom!

I guess I better start canning...

Back in the day,
when I had a houseful of children,
especially the teen years
(when boys can eat 24/7)
I use to can everything.

We have always had a garden
and would can and can from about
August to October every year.

Now that we are (nearly) empty nesters,
I don't can anymore

Mondays high temp was around 85 degrees.
Today it was about 45 degree.
These are the last of the tomatoes.
My husband covered the bushes with a tarp
and hopes to have a few more by the weekend,
but I think the garden is done.

Normally we have a large crop of pumpkins
and share with the whole neighborhood.
This year...only 2!

I guess I better get out my canning stuff...

Goodbye Summer...

...I will miss you!

Goodbye BBQ's and outdoor parties.
Goodbye to sleeping with the windows open.
Goodbye to camping and S'mores by the fire.
Goodbye to garden fresh veggies picked 5 minutes ago.
Goodbye to sandal wearing weather!

I will miss you (for the next 7 months!)

Today: 65 degrees and rain showers
Tomorrow: 45 degrees and snow!

I need a warm weather vacation!

Adoption is a beautiful thing!

I forgot to post yesterday for Blogerfest.

We had something special happen in our family.

It's official!
They're adopted!

These are the newest members of my brothers family!

Adoption is a main way children come into our family.

I am adopted, as well as my Aunt.

And now we've added
Kalani and Omaei!

Happy Dance!

Green shutters

Today is suppose to be out last warm day in the 80's,
so I decided I better get one last outside project done.

We've been in our home for quite a few years,
and the shutters needed painting.

My husband took them down before leaving for work,
and found a surprise...

Many, many wasp nests.
A whole community had built behind the shutters.

These are the shutters before painting....

The old color was a faded greenish gray.
The new color is more of a light pine tree green.

I am hoping to get the front door painted
tomorrow, if the weather will cooperate!

Stash busting Report

I missed making my report last week
because I was seriously sick.

The sick bug continued thru this week,
which resulted in lots of crocheting, but no sewing,
so no number changes.

Goals for the week:

Make & Create:
Sew E's blessing dress
Make Sep/Oct bird blocks

Weight & Health:
Drink 8 glasses water with lemon/daily
Write down food dairy daily
Exercise 30 min each day

I have signed up to be part of Blogerfest
for the entire month of October
I will be posting everyday this month.

This is going to be interesting....

I may add some more projects as the month goes all...
I usually do!

Sept UFO Finish

I am taking part in Judy's 2011 UFO project.

September's project was #11 on the list,
which you can see completed in this post

For October, I am completing #5 on my list:

I made this MANY moons ago, when I did alot of piecing.
It's more of a country themed wall hanging, which my house is not,
so I will probably pass it onto someone else when it's done.

Another project for my October 2011 to-do list!
