I actually sewed something!

After 2 months without a
studio/sewing place/uncluttered house,
my studio is finally finished!

Well...finished enough I
could move into it and function.

So, I sewed my granddaughters
Tinkerbell costume for Halloween.

It was glorious!

It felt so wonderful!

I loved sewing again!

Since it was not my
material, I can not count
it towards stash busting,

but, at least I was
able to create again!

This weeks goal:

1. More sewing
2. Learn how to get my photos
onto the blog.
3.More sewing.

What are your creating goals
for this week?

Lots to do...where is my list?

There is lots to do, now that I have
an established sewing area again....

after 2 months of not sewing...

yes, 2 months WITHOUT sewing!!

Unfortunately, the new studio
is in complete disarray right now.
Piles of boxes to organize
and bags of items to go thru and
put away.

here in blog land starting
tomorrow, so I had better
get super organized...fast!

Since I have not sewn
a stitch in 2 months,
my stash busting numbers
have not changed at all.
I will have some
change by next week though,
I promise you

What are your sewing plans?

I'm here..still...even on a Friday!

I normally work on Fridays,
so I have not been posting on
"What's on the Needle".

But...today I am off...(happy dance)

So....

I have completed 2 scarves (for me)
and 1 shawl (for charity) in the last
month of knitting.

Currently working on a cowl.

Unfortunately, no photos.

This is a new computer for me,
and I have not figured out how
to get the photos from my phone
to the computer.

Stash Report-Sep 8th

No changes.

Again.

Studio still not moved.

I haven't sewn in forever.

Frustrated.

Still holding at 34 yards
of a 100 yard goal.

Stashbusting Report

My life is a little crazy right now.

Moving my studio from an upstairs
finished room to the unfinished
basement of my Home.

Crazy disorganization!

Batting and yarn (and flannel and other fabric)
that were stored in the closet are now in the front room.

The studio is now going to be the
Office/Exercise Room.
Computer has found it's way into the closet.

So...

No sewing...

Stash report is still the same...

34 yards of a 100 yard goal.

I better get my new studio set up....fast!

How are you doing?

Stash Report

This will be the Summer of no blogging for me...

I am only posting about every 4-6 weeks.

When everyone starts back to a regular
school schedule in about 3 weeks, I will
hopefully get back to a more productive
schedule myself!

In terms of sewing...finishing many, many
(many) QOV tops for a friend here in Utah.
The state is opening two VA Homes, and
QOV is going to need lots of quilts.

So with the donation of two QOV this past
week, my numbers stand at:

Fabric out this week: 12 yards
Fabric in this week: 3 yards

Total stash busted fabric YTD: 34 yards.

Sad total, I know. I am going to sew, sew, sew
like crazy for the next few months. I exceeded
my 100 yard goal last year, I can do it again this
year too!

How are you doing?

Stash Report

I am SO close to finishing
multiple projects....and I do not
count my fabric in the "used"
category until a project is finished....

So...no changes.

Still at 25 yards used of a 100 yard goal!

And I have not purchased any fabric....

I need to start setting goals and staying
accountable to those goals, so...

This week:

Sew on borders on Scrappy Star QOV top

Buy/make backing for QOV top

Make binding for QOV top

Get QOV top over to quilters

Vacuum & dust studio

Sew yarn bag for gift (by Saturday's gift exchange)

How are you doing with your sewing goals?

On the Needle

Wow...did not realize how long I have
NOT posted here in blog land.
One month can go so quickly!
I have been working most Fridays,
so I keep missing the posting time.

So....

This is a finished shawl I donated to
a friends Prayer Shawl Ministry.
It was crocheted using Homespun
in the color called Fiesta. I still have
3 skeins of the Fiesta. May do another
shawl (knitted) for her group.

When you donated your first shawl,
my friend gives you this cute little
knit pin as a thank you!

This is one of my two current
knit projects...knitting another shawl.
Not sure if I am going to keep this
one for myself. I really like the
blue color from Caron.

My other knit project is my first
sock...it's going very slow...no photo.

Stash busting report

My stash busting numbers are staying the same.

I have completed some sewing projects,
but they have been for other folks,
using their patterns/materials.

I had surgery on my arm this week to
remove a spot. It was so little, I hate
to call it a tumor. It was deep inside
by my shoulder, so it wasn't the most
pleasant way to spend a day.

I am waiting for the biopsy results.
Positive thoughts!

Hence, not a lot of sewing, knitting,
crocheting, quilting or gardening.

How are you doing on your stash busting?

Stash Report

I did get in some sewing this week...Yee Haw!

Most of it was for charity, which is good,
but the charity needed color specific
flannel, which I did not have, so I
bought a few years. Not so great of
busting the current stash...

Fabric in this week: 7 yards

Fabric used this weed: 10.5 yards

Adjust yardage used to date: 25 yards

I better get sewing if I am going to come
even close to my goal of 100 yards
used this year.

How are you doing?

On the Needle

I am taking a break from working
on my first pair of socks.

I am attempting not to
begin more projects before finishing
a few projects.

So, I am going to finish the ongoing,
never done, always in the UFO pile

Sinful scarf project I started months
and months ago.

I found the pattern on ravelry.com
It's not terribly difficult, even for
a beginner for me.

Also, I am looking
for a website/online group
that specializes in vintage knit
and/or crochet patterns for
Women's wearables. Patterns need to
be dated before 1938.
Any suggestions?
So, what's on the needle at your house?

Stash Report

It has been a whole month since
I last made my fabric stash report.

And, I actually sewed this month!

I made 4 dresses for the granddaughters,
plus a baby blanket for charity.

Fabric in: 1 yard

Fabric out: 9.5 yards

Fabric used YTD: 22 yards

I am still so very far away from my
year goal of 100 yards. Guess I better
go back into the sewing room!

Day 15: Helpers

I had a different post for today,
but after what happen in Boston,
I'll just leave you with the wise
words of Mr. Rogers.

Day 14: Stash Report

First..no changes in the Stash Report.

Second...I did do some sewing this past week,
but it was with others fabric,  so I can
not count it or it was repairing past
projects or clothing.

Hey, at least I finally turned on my machine!

Day 13: Kimball Art Gallery

Today, my daughter and I went
to the kimball art center in Park City (Utah)
to view their current exhibits.

First, it was The Art of the Brick
by Nathan Sawaga.

The brick...Lego's!

Isn't he amazingly creative!

Next: Stephanie Clark's "Dwellings"

All handwork with threads.
And...each dwelling is just a couple
inches tall and wide...teeny tiny!

The last exhibit was called "Geolines"
by Mark Maxiarz
He took photos and stretched the image
out until it formed long lines.
I was not able to take photos of the exhibit.

I love art galleries.
Started attending them as a child
and now I take (drag) my own kids along!

Day 12: On the Needle

After yesterdays crazy day of ER visits,
I did enjoy a couple of hours with
my knit group.

They are so wonderful and helpful.

 I started my first sock

I am glad I had the ladies to
visually show me what to do.

Day 11: Two too many trips to the ER

Today was Emergency Room day for
two of my granddaughters.

Not the type of day I hope to repeat ever!

First, Elise....

She got squished under a trampoline
at the babysitters house.

Result: Buckle break just below the knee.
6-8 weeks in a cast.
She choose purple, since it is her favorite color.

Next, Maddie...

Fell and sliced opened her forehead,
while at the (different) babysitters.

Results: 4 stitches

I told the children I am ordering
a huge roll of bubble wrap.
Going to wrap my grand babies
up nice and safe!

Day 7-Stash busting report

I honestly thought about NOT posting
a stash busting report today, mostly
because I have not sewn in over a month.

Nothing.

Not a stitch!

Fabric in...0 yards

Fabric out...0 yards.

I am still at 13.5 yards used of
a 100 yard goal. Guess I better get
my machine (and creativity) in gear!

I did get a little excited about sewing
again after watching the new sewing show,
The Great British Sewing Bee on YouTube

The competitive part of me wants to see
if I can create an A line skirt in under
4 hours (zipper, darts and lining) and
redo a shirt neck in under an hour.

Could you complete these projects?

Day 6: Spring has arrived

Springtime in Utah can be a little different.

One day it is snowing sideways...

The next day it is sunny and
short sleeve wearing weather.

This afternoon, I spent an hour
replanting house plants I purchased
at the local nursery.

I also planted a new herb planter
for my kitchen with mint, basil,
oregano and lemon balm.

Making plans for the veggie
garden. I am ready for sweet
Summer tomatoes and Fall
pumpkins and Squash!

Day 5: On the Needle

I just checked my blog and my posts
for Days 2-4 have disappeared.
Hhmmmm...where did they go?

Day 5: On the Needle.

I am beginning to learn to knit socks.

I am following the book,
plus the great help from the ladies
in my knit group. I am doing a swatch

I am ready to start the actual sock, I think.

Day 1:Post a photo each day

I have taken on the challenge to
post here each day with a new subject
and photo.

Today's photo:

The aftermath of my daughter
celebrating at the local
India Color of Life festival.

The festival marks the beginning of
Spring and new Life.

They celebrated by throwing
colored chalk into the air...
and at one another...and passing strangers....

She had a wonderful time
and did not even leave a colorful
ring around the tub.

How are you celebrating Spring?

Stash Report/Quilting Day

Did you do anything special to celebrate
National quilting day?

I went to my local celebration that
was put together by 10 local quilt
groups in Northern Utah.

I wish I had taken more photos...sorry!

We had trunk shows and free demos.
We had a silent auction for baskets
and beautiful wall hangings
(I got out bid!)

And, of course, we had a quilt show.

I enjoyed myself, but I was a little distracted
by others events....namely....

the birth of our newest granddaughter!

Here she is with my Husband....

We also had a death of a beloved Grandmother
within our extended family this week,
so it has been a little crazy....

So....
My fabric stash has not changed at
all...no sewing...no shopping...

Maybe this next week will slow down...

Yeah...probably not!

Stash Bust Report-Feb 2013

Feb 2013 Stash Busting Report:

I sew/created/made absolutely
NOTHING during the month of February!

NOTHING!

I spent much of my time:

1.Taking care of a granddaughter

2.Birthday trip to California

3.Being (currently) sick

So...I am still at 13.5 yards busted.

March has got to be better.....

Saturday, February 16, 2013

And the winner is...

Me!

I won a book drawing over at

It is one of my favorite books on fashion,

And if you have not visited this blog
before, then you need to go right over.
The blog is great for all vintage fashion,
plus she has an amazing online vintage store.

Thanks again Couture Allure!

On the Needle

I have had some progress this week!

Crochet:

Finished my Husbands birthday blanket

So glad this is finished!

Knit:

The scarf that just will not be finished!

I have a second skein of this coral colored yarn,
that was going to be a matching hat or fingerless gloves.
Nope! SO tired of it, I think the 2nd skein is
going to be donated to someone in my knit group.

My next project?

After coming home from my birthday trip to California,
I am going to learn to knit socks!
I am so excited!

On the Needle

Today, I have on the needle...

Knitting:
The eternally-never-going-to-be-finished
Sinful Scarf pattern from Ravelry.com

It is not a difficult pattern, but I seem to
barely knit for a while, then get bored
and want to move onto something else.

Crochet:
Blanket for my Husband.
I started this about 1.5 years ago as a gift
for my husband. Then I forgot about it and
could not remember the stitches I was using
for it.

(sorry...the photo will not upload!)

Thank goodness for two great friends in my
knit group, who also crochet. They slowly pulled
out some stitches and figured out I was
using a slip stitch-half stitch repeat.
I am determined to finish this for my
husbands upcoming birthday!

Daughters Birthday Quilt

I mentioned finishing my daughters
birthday quilt in my January stash report.

I finally took the time to take a photo.

Her daughter...my granddaughter...wanted to
be in the photo too.

On to the next project...

January Stash Report 2013

I post my stash busting reports once a month.

My sewing for January:

Fabric in YTD: 9.5 yards
Fabric out YTD: 23 yards

Adjusted yardage: 13.5 yards used

The fabric used include:

Quilt for daughters birthday
3 charity baby blankets
Baby gift-sling purse and blanket
2 charity quilt blocks

I did not do well at finishing UFO's,
except my daughters birthday quilt.

It has been a little strange purchasing
fabric again after not for the whole year of 2012.
I thought I would be much more tempted. I find myself looking, but
really analyzing what project I am
purchasing for...not just because I like it.

How are you doing on your stash busting?

On the Needle

I have 2 projects going right now:

For knitting, it is back to the Sinful Scarf.

I wanted to have it finished for Christmas,
but this pattern just keeps going on and on...

For crocheting, I am doing a pattern
I found on Ravelry.com called

The original pattern is for a child, but
I adjusted the measurements to fit me.

My word for 2013

I do not set New Year Resolutions.
I never have...
I try to improve all thru the year.

This year, I am choosing one word
to build my goals around:

 v. healed, heal·ing, heals
v.tr.
1. To restore to health or soundness; cure. See Synonyms at cure.
2. To set right; repair: healed the rift between us.
3. To restore (a person) to spiritual wholeness.
v.intr.
To become whole and sound; return to health
.

Do you have a one word resolution or goal?

2013 is my year to Heal!
