I Like 2019-#9

I like...

I like a challenge!

My quilt guild is hosting a
B.U.M. Challenge
(butt ugly material)

Each quilter gets a fat quarter of the
same material and makes a quilt
related item over the next 3 months.

It's bright.
It's orangey.
It's kind of ugly.

I have a couple of ideas
how to use it.

I like learning

I have posted before about taking
classes online.
My current class is about Women's
Suffrage in the United Kingdom.

I did not realize all that went into
getting the vote for women.

I learned that there was a group of
artist who donated their time and talent into
making banners and posters to help the cause.
I think I would have been part of
their group.

Here is a video about one of the leaders.
A statue of her, the first of a woman,
was dedicated this past year,

I like Spring

I am not a big fan of Winter, so
I happily welcome Spring this week.

Today, it is raining in the Valley and
snowing in the Mountains, but
that is just how Spring is here in Utah.

I like our cat
(most of the time)

She is a rescue and even after
3.5 years at our house, she still has her issues.

She is not warm and cuddly, but we still like her.

I Like 2019-#8

I Like...

I like Grandparents Day

I was invited to my Granddaughters
Kindergarten Grandparents day.

The children sang songs...we had cookies
and milk...toured the school...played games.
The children also had a list of questions
to ask their grandparent. I had to explain
what the game of Monopoly was to her.

I like the Generosity of Friends

I have some of the best friends in the World
and they are so generous!

The last few months, I have 3 friends
who brought me boxes and boxes
(and boxes) of fabric they wanted to share.

We had a Free Fabric day at my
monthly quilt guild this last week.

All the ladies went home with armloads
and boxes of fabric. There will be lots
of sewing going on....

I like Spring

I am not a fan of Winter...

I like that we are beginning to see Spring

I like the fuzzy face family members

Unfortunately, this week, my daughters
family found out their sweet dog has
a heart problem that cannot be fixed.

I had to take him to the vet for tests.
They are going to enjoy what time they have
with him. He is truly a family member.

I like camping and hiking

With the changes in the weather, I
am ready to start camping.

One of our favorite places to go is
Yellowstone National park

Yellowstone celebrated their 147th
anniversary this month. It was the
first National park in the USA.

We prefer to camp there in the Fall, when
there is not so many people.

I like 2019-#7

My I Like post is very simple this week.

I Like my family!

I am blessed to have a great Husband,
terrific adult children and in-;laws
and especially the best grandchildren.

This past week was my Husband and my
birthday week. We tend to be low key
about celebrating. This year was going to
be an especially quiet celebration, because
I had surgery on my arm

Our kids had a different idea...

The kids surprised us
with pizza, cake and, most importantly,
every family member!

Sisters with kids

Twin cousins (born weeks apart)

Youngest grandchild expressing her two year old self
(translation: tantrum)

Aunt teaching the youngest the piano

All the grandkids at the same time!
Ages 2-14 years old

We were given this beautiful clock made by
our oldest granddaughter

She is our 5th generation woodworker!

I like 2019-#6

I like Winter bulb blooms

My sister in law gave me a Winter
bulb for Christmas, but I did not
plant it immediately.

I
I planted it a few weeks ago and it
has begun to bloom. There are 5 more
flowers waiting to open up.

I like my new car

It took me months of research and
days of visiting car sale sites, but I
finally found my car

My last couple of cars have been red,
but this Rav4 is more purple.
It is a dream to drive. I still
need to figure out all the buttons
and devices it has on the dash.

I like "new to me" fabric

A friends Mother passed away a
few months ago and she cleaned out
her fabric stash. Her Mom was a
maker of beautiful quilts.

My quilt group is going to go crazy
with all the boxes of fabric!
I took some of the red and blue fabrics
Everything else will be up for grabs...

I like the first signs of Spring

I noticed the bulbs in our front flower
bed are beginning to peak through the
mud and snow.

I have tulips, Iris,
and daffodils.
I am ready for Spring!

I Like 2019-#5

I like....

I like Ultrasounds

I know...kind of a weird "I like" item,
but this week I was able to view my
9th grandchild in an Ultrasound.

(this is not my grandchild...photo from Google)

Technical advancements in ultrasounds are
absolutely amazing, We could see the four
chambers of her heart...her fingers and toes...
even her little face.

I like handkerchiefs

I use handkerchiefs in my art quilts.

I always have one in my purse. I
prefer to use them, instead of paper
tissues.

I like Podcasts

I have recently discovered Podcasts.

I loaded the Podcast Addict app on my phone.

I listen to podcast while I sew
and while I ride my exercise bike
and while I soak in the bath.

I like 2019-#4

Welcome to my weekly I Like post.

I like Vintage Valentines

So sweet...so cute...so silly

I like to knit

I have taken a couple months off from
knitting after finishing many projects
for the Christmas holidays.

I am beginning to knit again.
I am starting with the first pattern in
my pattern list on Ravelry.com

I hope to finish a bunch of
projects this year.

I like reading

I like to read before I go to sleep each night

I just finished the book "Wonder".
I am going to the Library today
to find my next read.

I like quilts by
Gloria Loughman

She is coming to the Utah Quilt Fest
in September to teach.

I am hoping to get to take one
of her classes.

I love her architecture quilts.

I like post 2019-#3

Wow...I can not believe it has been
a entire month since I posted!

I like....

I like Paintstiks

I went to the Road to California Quilt Conference
at the end of January. So many wonderful quilts,
classes and demo's.

The Conference Center converts some of the
Men's bathrooms over for use of the many women
who are attending...

I took a class on Paintstiks. It basically looks
like a huge crayon, which is a solid form of
oil paint with a wax coating.

I learned how to use rubbing plates, raised
stamps and stencils. I liked the rubbing
plates best. I bought plates for snow flake
and tile designs.

The Teacher was Laura Murray, who was great!
Here is a video of her explaining the technique.

I like the Beach

I was raised by the beach, but I do not live
close to it. I miss it.

While in California for the Quilt
Conference, I went to Seal Beach.
It was the beach I grew up on as a child.
So calming...and relaxing...

I like to try new things

This week, my Church's
Ladies organization had a paint night.
I am not a painter, but I tried it out.

We painted a Winter Tree.
You could also add heart shaped
leaves to it, but I do not decorate
for Valentines, so I kept it
a Winter scene only.

Not too bad for a first attempt, I think.

Now that I have had a wonderful
week renewing
myself with Sun, Sand, Ocean,
quilting and family,  I am ready
to take on the Utah Winter again!

I like 2019-#2

I like....

I like the power of Sisterhood

I have three important groups of women
in my life.

First, the ladies at my Church.

Second, the ladies of my Quilt Guild

And third, the ladies of my knit group.

Each group came together because of their
shared love of God, fabric or Fiber.
They have become a supportive part
of my life. We have gone through life's
happy and sad experiences together. I
love these ladies!

Currently, I have some health challenges
in my life for myself and other family
members. I have been feeling kind of
discouraged, but then I decided to be
positive....it can always be worse...right!
I love our group post every Thursday
of "I like" lists. It's nice to read the positive
when you don't always feel it.

Slow Sunday Stitch 2019-#1

Welcome 2019!

This first Sabbath of the year 2019
has come in snowy and cold. After
Church, my plan is to snuggle under
a quilt and stitch Sheep....

(Ah...can't figure out how to turn the
sheep the correct direction....)

The pattern is from a Nativity I made
for this past Christmas. (Post Here) I was working
on the French knots at my knit group
meeting and all the ladies fell in love
with the little Sheep.

I told them I would make them one
AFTER Christmas...my hands just
can't do hours and hours of
hand stitching anymore.
I need to make about a dozen.

I am looking forward to a
wonderfully creative 2019.

Join other hand stitchers over at
to see some beautiful projects in progress.
