If you are in Salt Lake, you really should go!

My photo's reversed when I uploaded them, so, to start with.....my blocks for my quilt guild donation quilt. We are donating the quilt to the city of Syracuse (Utah) which I think they will use to raise money for the recreation department. We use the city rec center for free 10 months out of the year, so a nice quilt isn't too much for us to do for the city. Each quilter received a piece of the solid coral fabric you see in my blocks and was asked to make a 12.5 (12" finished) inch block of her choice. I had enough to make two, so I thought it was better to do both in case someone fell thru.
Now, to the real topic of my post....I got to attend the opening reception of my niece, Amy Skouson, at a Art exhibit in Salt Lake last night. Pictured below is the beautiful artist with her quilt of Iowa Corn Fields. The Art Exhibit is sponsored by our Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...also known as Mormons. The exhibit has paintings (oil, watercolors & mixed media), plus Textiles (quilts, clothing) and I think I saw a couple of sculptures. There were about 1000 initial entries, 200 of which were displayed.

Amy is an extraordinaire quilter/textile artist. She Linocut print her basic scene, then fabric painted and hand embroidered...the piece is beautiful! So is Amy! I tried to take a photo of just her quilt piece, but my camera was not the greatest. If you would like to see it, go to her blog:

I think it is the fourth piece down...called Iowa Corn Stubble. The show goes until October 2009,so if you're going to be in the area of the Conference Center (North of the Salt Lake Temple), stop by for a fabulous tour!

Stashbusting Report

I know I've done a little sewing here and there all week, but it doesn't really add up to anything...mending...a 12 inch block for the Utah Round Robin....two 12 inch blocks for my quilt chapters donation quilt. Oh well, it's got to eventually catch up somewhere!

I have been busy!

I have been reading blogs this morning (while baby takes his morning nap) and realized it's been quite a while since I have read and/or posted. I have been super busy with sewing and family projects.
Below is my March charity quilt. I took 2.5 inches strips from my scrap box and sewed them three across. When I would run out of one fabric, I just added another strip end to end and kept going....
After a while, when the pieced fabric got really long, I started cutting 6.5 inch squares. I sewed the blocks into rows, switching the direction the strips went every other square. Added scrap (pink) border and it's all ready to quilt and donate....don't know who I am donating to though...any suggestions?

I've also been busy doing the Utah Quilt Guild Mystery 2009 project. I pulled all the fabric from my stash. Left to Right: Background, Dark, Medium & Light fabrics. The bottom of the photo: Left is the February instruction results of half squares using the background & dark fabrics....Right is the March instruction results of light rectangles with background corners.

I have a few other sewing projects going too...just no current photos!
Hope you are busy and happy too....what are you working on?

Yeah...finally going towards the "used" fabric side more than the "in" fabric side. 3 yards was the quilt top I posted yesterday....the other 4 yards went towards Christmas presents....yes, I am trying to get a jump start on Christmas this year. I know, I always say I am starting early, but this year, I am really making some progress on my sewing gifts!

So, are you a stashbuster? How are you doing?
